Our Story

In search of quality care with a difference

It all began when the founders, Reuben and Irene Khoo,  had to take their dad home from the hospital. Dad had a fall resulting in a hip fracture and had spent time recuperating in the community hospital. In need of help to care for Dad, they explored every option available in the market.

“We could sense that the last thing Dad wanted was to be in a nursing home. Dad felt safer being at home with his loved ones.

While there were choices for home-based care, we felt there was more to just performing the task of care. More than just quality care you can trust, there was a difference when caring for a loved one – it all comes down to the personal touch when you understand the person.

In our minds, for Dad to return home to be among his loved ones, with the aid of a domestic helper to tend to his care needs, would be the best option.

However we soon realized that though Dad’s physical care needs were met, he was not achieving positive health outcomes. Dad was becoming withdrawn, not interested in meals and showing signs of depression. His mental health started to take a toll on his physical health.

We felt the call to step up to be Dad’s caregivers. Knowing our Dad personally, we were able to engage Dad in things that could bring joy to him. To equip ourselves with better knowledge, we researched on aging and care. That was when we recognized that Dad was also having the onset of mild dementia.

After several months of personalized care, we could see Dad recovering gradually on all fronts – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Within a year, Dad was almost back to his normal self except for the occasional forgetfulness and walking around with the help of a walking aid.

Having had the experience, we are convinced that care provided with the right knowledge and putting the relationship first, beyond just tasks, makes a positive difference. Encouraged to change the approach to care-giving, we embarked on a journey to search globally for a home senior care provider embodying such qualities.”

Home Instead Senior Care in Singapore was founded – out of necessity, to make a difference.

Our Global History

The World’s Leading Provider of In-Home Senior Care

Home Instead is a world leading private home care company founded in 1994 by husband and wife Paul and Lori Hogan in the United States. The pair struggled to find personalised care that would suit Paul’s grandmother’s needs, and from this, the concept of Home Instead Senior Care was born.

With the creation of the company, Grandma Manhart was able to be cared for over 12 years in her home and lived many years longer than expected where she enjoyed life past age 100.

This experience inspired their desire to help other families by providing private home help for ageing loved ones.  This desire soon became a mission and the founding of Home Instead Senior Care®.

Today, Home Instead Senior Care® is the world’s leading provider of in-home elder care services, with more than 1,100 offices in 14 countries on four continents.  The global franchise network provides personalized care, support and education to help enhance the lives of aging adults and their families around the world.

Our Mission

Our universal mission is to enhance the lives of seniors and their families every day with our quality care, companionship and support. Leading this mission is the idea that every senior in Singapore can receive the comfort and support they need in their own home. With Home Instead, you can expect passionate dedication, extraordinary service and authentic care from the heart – no matter your needs.

Our main focus will always be making sure you receive the highest quality care. That’s why all Home Instead® CAREGivers go through ongoing, comprehensive training. At the same time, we encourage CAREGiversSM to establish rewarding one-on-one relationships with seniors and their families. We want you to experience distinctive care with a compassionate touch.

Our Values

Everything we do at Home Instead is driven by our universal mission to enhance the lives of ageing adults and their families

Coupled with our firm belief that a relationships-first approach to providing quality care, companionship, support and a helping hand to seniors, as opposed to the traditional task-based approach is fundamental to providing care in a holistic way.

The fact is, 80% of Singaporeans want to live in their own home as long as they can as they grow older. Caring in a holistic manner goes beyond just proactive care. It is equally important to incorporate preventive care so that our seniors can remain healthy and safe at home for the longest time.

By putting the seniors first, we strive to Know-Your-Senior to understand their needs beyond just the physical aspects to include their mental, social and emotional well-being. We also believe that for seniors to age healthier, happier, and in a fulfilling manner, our mission has to include their families.

Every day, we strive to make this mission a reality in every home that we had a privilege to serve. Home Instead is committed to helping older Singaporeans and their families achieve this by providing the best in-home care and support to meet our client’s needs.

To us, it’s personal.
And we’re looking to make all care that way.
